Pregnant Bride Dies on Wedding Day but Doctors Miraculously Save Her Unborn Child

Jessica Guedes reportedly passed out on her way to her ceremony in Brazil.

What was supposed to be a lovely wedding day turned tragic when a pregnant bride died of a stroke just before she was supposed to walk down the aisle, according to reports.

Miraculously, doctors were able to save the baby of 30-year-old Jessica Guedes, who was six months pregnant, by performing a cesarean section, but the young mom was declared brain dead after being transported to the hospital.

Guedes reportedly passed out on her way to her ceremony in Brazil after she began feeling dizzy and having pain. Doctors would later determine she suffered a stroke due to preeclampsia, the Daily Mail reported.

Guedes’ husband-to-be, Flavio Goncalvez, 31, was already at the altar waiting for his bride when he was informed of what had happened. He told a local Brazilian outlet that he rushed to the limo to see what was going on.

“I opened the car door and she was lying down but regained consciousness to talk to me. I said to her, ‘Baby, I'm here,'" Goncalvez recalled. “She replied that everything was fine, but that she had a severe pain in the back of her neck. At that moment, I became a rescuer, as I have been for seven years with the Fire Department.”

The bride was rushed to the hospital in Sao Paulo, where doctors discovered she was also internally bleeding. They moved quickly to save her child, and the couple’s daughter, Sophia, was born at just 29 weeks. Guedes died after the baby was born.

“Jessica was a really cheerful person who loved life, an enlightened and strong being of light,” Goncalvez said. “I was so looking forward to becoming her husband and becoming a father. I will be strong and I will not weaken in the face of adversity.”

Baby Sophia is expected to remain in the hospital for at least two months.

“The love of my life taught me how to respect and treat a woman well so that I could learn how to take care of our daughter,” Goncalvez said.

"I still can't believe this has happened. It seems like I'm in a sad movie, and you cry, cry, cry, but leave the movie theater knowing it was just a movie. However, in my case, the movie will never be over….”
