Stolen Ruby Slippers Worn by Judy Garland in 'The Wizard of Oz' Recovered 13 Years Later

For this iconic footwear, there's no place like home.

The ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland in “The Wizard of Oz” have been recovered, more than a decade after they were stolen.

The shoes were stolen from a glass case in The Judy Garland Museum in her hometown of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, in August 2005.

The iconic shoes were insured for a million dollars when they vanished.

In 2015, 10 years after the theft, a movie buff offered a reward of a million dollars for the return of the stolen slippers, but their whereabouts remained a mystery until Monday.

At a news conference Tuesday afternoon, the FBI revealed how they were recovered.

"We received a new tip and some information we diligently pursued — lots of interviews, searches — only to later lead this summer to the recovery of these slippers," FBI Special Agent Jill Sanborn said at the press conference.

Following the news conference, the FBI tweeted about finding the slippers.

Michael Shaw is the private collector who had loaned the shoes to the museum when they were stolen. He told Inside Edition he started crying when they were found.

"I just was thrilled," he said. "Absolutely thrilled. I know it sounds ridiculous but I started to cry. I never thought that I would hear that they were still in existence."

The shoes are one of several pairs Garland wore while shooting the 1939 movie.

Another pair is due to be put on display at The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures when it opens next year in Los Angeles. Those shoes were jointly acquired by Leonardo DiCaprio and Steven Spielberg for the museum.

A third pair is at the Smithsonian, while a fourth is owned by a private collector.

It's believed the recovered shoes could fetch as much as $5 million at auction.
