What People Are Saying About Baby Archie's Name
Reaction is mixed when it comes to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's newborn son's name.
What's in a name?
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stunned the world when they announced their newborn son's name: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. Prior to the reveal Wednesday, Arthur had been a heavy favorite.
The name is not short for Archibald, as some have speculated. It's just Archie.
Reaction online is mixed.
"I am not a fan of the name," wrote one person on Twitter.
"Archie is a very cute name!" said another.
Many had expected a more traditional name, but Archie is actually quite a popular name in Britain, where it was among the top 25 most common boys' names in 2017.
And while little Archie does not have a royal title right now, he could in the future.
Under the current royal decree, Archie would be given the title of prince when his grandfather, Prince Charles, becomes king, if Meghan and Harry so choose.
For now, he will simply be known as Master Archie.
