Ashley Pirlot, 26, was arrested on Nov. 16, after she left her three young children alone in a car to go to a Milwaukee, Wisconsin-area Kmart.

Two women who were passing by called the cops after they spotted the kids sitting alone in the car, which was in the parking lot. USA Today is reporting that police noted the children were not even dressed properly for the 35-degree weather.

A 17-month-old girl was found in a booster seat, dressed only in a partially unzipped onesie. A 6.5-month-old girl was left barefoot in a carrier. The eldest, a 6-year-old girl, told police she was hungry and had not eaten in a while. The two infants were also wearing dirty diapers.

Officers bought new diapers, food and water for the children. Pirlot told authorities she asked the 6-year-old to watch the other two children while she was gone. She claimed was in the store for only a few minutes before cops arrived.

Surveillance video from the store showed the she had been there for 17 minutes. Police arrested Pirlot and charged her with three counts of child neglect. Two of them are felonies. Pirlot has pleaded not guilty.
