Worker Demolishes British Hotel After Claiming He Wasn’t Paid

Other workers begged him to stop but he was determined to do as much damage as possible.

British police are seeking out the operator of a digger who destroyed the reception area of a Liverpool hotel after video of his alleged carnage went viral.

Footage shared on social media showed a construction worker operating a digger and driving it into a new Travelodge hotel on the day the building was due to be finished.

Other workers begged him to stop but he was determined to do as much damage as possible.

“The handover was today, everything completed, we’d put the last tile in, cleaned up and made sure everything was perfect,” Samuel White, a ceiling fixer, told The Guardian. “Then some idiot in a mini digger decided to drive through the middle of the building.”

White said the destruction went on for “a good 20 or 30 minutes.”

The driver was allegedly angry over the fact that he had not been paid £600, which equates to $783.49.

“A man has since been located and will be interviewed as part of the ongoing investigation,” a Merseyside Police spokesman told The Guardian. “One man experienced eye irritation due to exposure to diesel and was treated at the scene by North West ambulance service. It is not believed anyone else was injured during the incident. Merseyside fire and rescue services and contractors attended to ensure the site was safe.”

Travelodge has not commented on the situation.
