Sara Mutschleitner was the designated driver for a group of friends coming home from a New Year's Eve party, authorities said. The University of North Texas student had not been drinking, witnesses told police.

While stopped a red light, a carful of men including Johnson, pulled up next to Mutschleitner's car and began talking with the people in her vehicle, police said. But the conversation grew heated after the men made several sexual remarks directed at the women in her car, authorities said.

Shots were fired from the men's vehicle and Mutschleitner was struck twice in the head, police said.

Witnesses in her car helped identify Johnson, who was at the same party the students attended, authorities said.
