Woman's Body Discovered at Bottom of Las Vegas Hotel Laundry Chute

Investigators are treating the death of Kalli Medina-Brown as suspicious, after she was found by employees at the D Las Vegas, about 2:40 a.m. Sunday.

The body of a 26-year-old woman celebrating her upcoming birthday with her husband and friends was found at the bottom of a laundry chute in a Las Vegas hotel-casino, according to reports.

Investigators are treating the death of Kalli Medina-Brown as suspicious, after she was found by employees at the D Las Vegas, downtown’s tallest hotel-casino, about 2:40 a.m. Sunday.

Though initial reports indicated Medina-Brown may have fallen down the chute, the Las Vegas metropolitan police department is working to determine if the California woman’s death was a homicide, KTNV-TV wrote.

Staff at the 34-story hotel declined to comment if the woman was staying at the hotel, saying in a statement: “We are saddened by the unfortunate incident that took place at the D Las Vegas. We are cooperating with the authorities and cannot comment on the ongoing investigation.”

The hotel portion of the massive complex has 629 deluxe rooms, according to its website.

Detectives reportedly told Medina-Brown’s mother that video from inside the hotel shows her daughter walking in one direction while her husband went the opposite way. The young woman then walked into a maid’s closet, at which point the video went dark, KTNV-TV reported.

Medina-Brown’s loved ones refused to consider the legal secretary may have taken her own life, telling the television station that nothing would lead to her committing suicide.

“Everybody goes to Vegas to have fun. There’s no way it was suicide. There’s no way in the world,” Tony Fratis, Medina-Brown’s grandfather, told KTNV-TV.

“We’ve all consumed too much (alcohol) so that’s a strong possibility. Could they (she and her husband) have gotten in an argument? Sure. Would that have caused her to jump down a chute? No,” he continued.

He also didn’t consider her husband to be involved in his granddaughter’s death, saying the man, who was still believed to be in Las Vegas speaking with investigators, was not a violent person.

“I wasn’t there but I just can’t help but believe that it was an accident,” he said.

Loved ones took to the couple’s social media pages to express their condolences and disbelief at what happened.

“I’m in complete shock,” another posted on Medina-Brown’s Facebook page.

“Stay strong. We love you both,” one person wrote to her husband.
