Woman Delivers Her Own Baby in Car When She Can't Make It to Hospital

After delivering her baby, Shannon Geise completed the trip to the hospital.

A pregnant Arizona woman was hightailing it to the hospital as contractions pulsated through her body. And then, her son's head emerged.

That's when Shannon Geise, 31, pulled to the side of the road and delivered her own baby in the driver's seat of the family SUV. Her 1-year-old daughter was in the back seat.

She called 911. "I just delivered a baby in my car," she told the dispatcher.

"It felt funny to say that," she said in an interview with Inside Edition.

The operator was incredulous that she was the only adult in the car.

"Are you by yourself?"

"Yeah," Shannon replied. "Well, I have my 1-year-old daughter with me."

Did she need the paramedics?

"No, I'm almost there," Shannon said, and proceeded to drive herself, the newborn son and baby daughter to the hospital.

The infant was wailing his head off.

"OK, the baby's crying, good. That's good — I'm going to call them and let them know," the dispatcher said, as Shannon finished the minutes-long journey.

Now a mother of five, Shannon said Sebastian weighed in at 6 pounds, 7 ounces. Mother and son are doing fine.
