Twitter went into overdrive to track Lauren down and Hanks' message was retweeted 3,000 times.
Finally one of Lauren Whitmore’s professors at Fordham University spotted her. Lauren told INSIDE EDITION: “I get an email from one of my professors saying: ‘You're famous!’”
She is a student at Fordham's Lincoln Center campus where she's a psychology and Spanish major.
She told INSIDE EDITION that she thinks "it's incredible." She added "only in New York" would something like this happen.
Lauren, an aspiring dancer and cheerleader for the Brooklyn Kings rugby team, explained she was jogging with her ID in an armband, but when she pulled out her phone to take a selfie, her ID flew out.
She said she already went to get a new ID, which cost her $20. But she would like her old ID back and a chance to meet Tom Hanks.
And it could happen: Hanks is in New York filming the story of Sully Sullenberger -- the hero pilot who landed his plane on the Hudson River.

For Lauren, she had some wise words from Hanks himself on her situation, telling INSIDE EDITION: "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get."
