Terminally Ill 'Star Wars' Fan's Last Wish is a Sneak Preview of 'The Force Awakens'
Before the new 'Star Wars' film opens, one terminally ill fan hopes to see it before it arrives in theaters.
For one fan, 31-year-old Daniel Fleetwood, the release date for the film may not be soon enough.
Daniel was given only months to live in September when a rare form of connective tissue cancer called spindle cell sarcoma spread to his lungs. He has currently outlived the prognosis of one to two months.
He was first diagnosed two years ago and it has since spread to his lungs and is inoperable and he doubts he will live to see the opening of The Force Awakens.
Now, he is hoping to see the film before his time is up.
In an email to INSIDE EDITION, his wife, Ashley said it would mean "everything" to him to see the film.
An online campaign called #ForceForDaniel have popped up to help spread the word and convince Disney, the studio behind the film, to hold a special screening for the Texas native.
Stars of the franchise like Mark Hammil, Carrie Fisher John Boyega, Peter Mayhew and Bad Robot, Star Wars director J.J. Abrams’ production company, are endorsing the campaign so Daniel can see the latest chapter in the popular sci-fi saga.
His wife said that she "can't even wrap my head around" the celebrity endorsements. She said "it is amazing" and they are "grateful" for the support.
Ashley said that her husband has been a fan of the series since he was eight when his father showed him the original triology and "fell in love instantly."
It is up to Disney to make the final call if he can see the film or not. They still have not heard from the studio.
While everyday past the prognosis is a gift, "he hurts but is also excited about the love from everyone" according to Ashley.
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help Daniel and his family pay for medical expenses. For more information, click here.
