'Sopranos' Star Jamie-Lynn Sigler: I Have Been Fighting Multiple Sclerosis For 15 Years
Jamie-Lynn Sigler is speaking out about her diagnosis for the first time.
Sopranos actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler has revealed that she is suffering from multiple sclerosis.
The 34-year-old newlywed opened up to People magazine and revealed that she was diagnosed 15 years ago.
She says she didn't share the information when she worked on the hit HBO series, except for telling one person—the late James Gandolfini.
"Sometimes all I needed was like five or 10 minutes to sit and recharge but I wouldn't ask, because I didn't want them to be suspicious,” she said.
In MS, the immune system attacks the protective covering of nerves, causing problems with balance and muscle control, among other issues.
Sigler recently tied the knot with baseball player Cutter Dykstra, son of baseball legend Lenny Dykstra. The couple has a two-year-old son, Beau.
She says she is talking now about her disease because she wants the world to know it does not define her.
“You'd think that after all these years, somebody would be settled with something like this, but it's still hard to accept,” she said. “I wasn’t ready until now."
Sigler says these days she tires easily and can't run but she maintains a fighting spirit and is hopeful about her future.
“It takes a fighting attitude to deal with all this. This disease can absolutely take over your life if you let it,” she told the magazine.
