Robert Shapiro Reveals What O.J. Simpson Whispered to Him After The Verdict
One of the world's most famous defense attorneys has broken his silence on the trial of the century.
O.J. Simpson's attorney Robert Shapiro is finally revealing what the former football great whispered in his ear moments after that not guilty verdict came in.
Shapiro told Fox News’ Megyn Kelly that Simpson said: “You told me this would be the result from the beginning. You were right.”
Shapiro spoke out for the first time since the blockbuster TV series, American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson, reignited America’s fascination with the case.
He told Kelly during her primetime Megyn Kelly Presents special on Tuesday what happened behind closed doors before Simpson tried on those bloody gloves.
“Here's what I told O.J. Simpson: ‘I want you to walk as close to the jury as you can, hold up your hand like you are holding the Olympic torch and pull and tug on that glove because it will not fit.’ And clearly it didn't,” he admitted.
But Simpson’s longtime agent Mike Gilbert, who owns the embattled athlete’s famous white Ford Bronco, told Inside Edition that he told the Heisman Trophy winner to stop taking his arthritis medication so his hands would swell up.
“I said to him, ‘if you're worried, stop taking your arthritis medication.’ And he said, ‘Well, my hands would hurt like hell’ and I said ‘why?’ and you see the light come on,” he admitted.
The Simpson case is likely to stay in the headlines ahead of a marathon eight-hour ESPN documentary series. Premiering next month, O.J. Simpson: Made In America is being called "a masterpiece" and "the only thing this country's going to be talking about," according to The New York Times.
