Bey-Watch: Amy Schumer Ignites Social Media Uproar Over 'Formation' Tribute Video
Twitter users claim the comedian made a joke out of the "culturally significant" song.
Many have questioned Amy Schumer's intentions after she appeared in a parody of Beyonce's "Formation” alongside Goldie Hawn.
Beyonce debuted the politically charged "Formation" at the Super Bowl in January and her video is a tribute to black women.
Schumer's parody may seem innocent at first glance, but it's now being blasted on Twitter for making light of the song's message.
"Formation was about cops killing young black men and empowerment of black women, not a joke,” wrote one person.
"There is no possible excuse for @amyschumer not to know the cultural significance of #formation for black women. I hope this hurts her career,” another tweet read.
The parody was made during some downtime while Schumer was filming a new movie in Hawaii with Hawn. The currently untitled project co-stars Wanda Sykes and Joan Cusack, who also appear in the video.
But like other forms of backlash Schumer has received in the past few months, she's not letting the backlash bother her one bit as she posted lyrics from the song to social media in response to critics.

She added: “We had so much fun making this tribute. All love and women inspiring each other. #StrongerTogether.”
Beyonce has not responded to the video, which was released exclusively on Tidal, her husband Jay Z's music and video streaming service.
