Debbie Reynolds' Ex-Husband Calls Her 'Most Perfect Woman,' But Denies He Stole From Her
Richard Hamlett was called "the devil" by his ex-wife in her memoir.
Debbie Reynolds' third husband only has glowing things to say about his late ex-wife, who once referred to him as "the devil" in her memoir.
"Debbie was the sweetest, most perfect woman," Richard Hamlett told Inside Edition exclusively.
Hamlett says their 12-year marriage hit the rocks after he convinced the Singin’ in the Rain actress to bankroll a Las Vegas casino, which took a heavy toll on her finances. They parted ways soon afterward.
Reynolds accused him of running off with a mistress. He says the woman worked for him, although they did marry in 2012.
She wrote about him in her 2013 memoir, Unsinkable, describing their union as one in which she "married the devil."
Hamlett told Inside Edition she only painted him as a bad guy because "she thought it was a good way to sell a book.”
In 2013, Inside Edition’s Les Trent spoke to Reynolds about her marriage to Hamlett and said: “you write so honestly about the troubles you had in your marriage. The last two in particular where you got ripped off financially.”
She said: "I call it ripped off"
Hamlett denies he ever took a penny from her, telling Inside Edition: "she said I stole money and took money from her, it couldn't be further from the truth.”
When he heard that Reynolds had died, he knew instantly what had happened.
"She died of a broken heart; that's all it was,” he said.
Reynolds and Hamlett were married from 1984 to 1996. They did not have any children together.
