Adopted Daughter Returns to Ambulance Where Firefighter Father Helped Deliver Her

Her father delivered her after he responded to a call about a woman with abdominal pain.

Marc and Gracie Hadden recently returned to the unusual place where their special daddy-daughter bond first took hold: The back of the ambulance where she was born.

The retired firefighter from the Myrtle Beach Fire Department recently took his 5-year-old daughter to the very same vehicle where their incredible story began.

“Right here in this very spot is where I held you for the very first time. How cool is that?,” he told her.

He added: "Gracie and I just have a major bond."

Their story began in November 2011 when Hadden, then a firefighter and EMT, was responding to a 911 call about a woman with severe abdominal pain.

"As soon as we got there, we learned that it was a little bit more than abdominal pain,” he told Inside Edition. “She said that she was pregnant. Pretty much, delivery happened right after that.”

He helped deliver a baby girl in the back of his ambulance and couldn't wait to tell his wife, Beth.

“He sent a text message saying, ‘I just delivered a baby,’ and I was so excited for him," Beth Hadden recalled. "I was like, ‘Oh, did we get to keep her!?’ literally joking around at that point, and he said, ‘Well, I don't know.'"

While filling out routine paperwork at the hospital, he overheard something that would change their lives forever.

“We overheard the doctor telling the nurses that the baby's gonna be put up for adoption,” he said. “I started getting pretty excited at that point."

In less than 48 hours, the Haddens, who already had two boys, Will and Parker, went from a family of four to a family of five.

“I kept looking at Marc and going, ‘Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh! We're having a baby,'" Beth recalled.

Gracie loves playing with her big brothers and they say she has “quite a spirit.” She's also quite aware of the unusual circumstances of her birth.

“I was born in an ambulance,” she said. “My daddy delivered me.”
