New York Tourist Speaks About Losing Foot In Taxi Accident
Sian Green's trip to New York took a tragic turn when she lost her foot in a taxi accident. Now, she's speaking about the ordeal that changed her life. INSIDE EDITION has the story.
She's in a wheelchair—with bandages hiding the stump of an amputated leg.
Sian Green is the young tourist who was saved by Dr. Oz and other good Samaritans when a New York City taxi cab mowed her down five weeks ago.
"It's been a whirlwind, and it's just turned upside-down," said Green.
The 23-year old, aspiring model appeared on the Today Show and spoke about the accident for the first time.
"There's good people in this world. Very good people in this world that I can't thank enough," said Green.
Plumber David Justino sprang into action and used his belt for a tourniquet.
Dr. Oz was at his TV studio nearby when he saw the commotion and rushed to help.
"They had the belt on and we were just trying to tighten it up to make sure that we could stop the bleeding," said Dr. Oz.
The quick-thinking plumber was hailed as a hero.
"All right guys—I'm going back to work!" said the plumber after the incident.
But INSIDE EDITION learned that after the cameras went away and attention faded, Justino was fired.
He said he thinks he lost his job because he was spending too much time giving TV interviews.
"All the media at my job, I believe cost me my job," Justino told INSIDE EDITION.
Green and a friend were visiting New York City from London when the trip of a lifetime became a nightmare. A cab jumped the curb at Rockefeller Center in the heart of Manhattan, pinning Green against a concrete slab.
Justino says despite losing his job, seeing Green in such good spirits brings tears to his eyes.
"It's just great to see her talking and alive," said Justino.
And the aspiring model hasn't forgotten Dave the plummer or Dr. Oz: "If it weren't for them, I wouldnt be sitting here right now telling this story," said Green.
