Are Detained Migrants Being Told to Drink Out of Toilets?
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says migrants are being abused at border facilities.
Are detained migrants being told to drink out of the toilets?
That's what Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York says is happening at a facility in Clint, Texas. She said migrants inside the facility told her that's what agents suggest they do.
Video taken from inside the facility shows several disheveled women in a cell wrapped in sleeping bags, and they claim they were "denied showers for up to 15 days" and told to get their drinking water from the toilets.
"There's abuse in these facilities. There's abuse. This was [the agents] on their best behavior and they put [migrants] in a room with no running water," Ocasio-Cortez told reporters.
But the U.S. Customs and Border Protection is refuting those claims.
"I can tell you with the utmost confidence that the migrants, anyone and everyone, in our custody, at all of our facilities have ready access to fresh water," an official said on "Fox & Friends." In fact, the official said, the toilets are fixed with faucets on top.
However, Ocasio-Cortez stood by her statement, saying that the faucets were not working at the facility.
