Plans for a scented subway have been nixed in Vienna, Austria, after transit authority officials tested out various smells on two different subway lines, the AP reported.
Hints of green tea, grapefruit, sandalwood and melon wafted from the ventilation systems on four trains. Riders sniffed it all out, then voted online for their preference.
The authority said 21,000 people didn’t want the fragrance, while 16,000 supported the project.
Air quality conditions on trains there reportedly improved after a ban on eating on trains took effect in January.
