Donald Trump's Hollywood Walk of Fame Star Destroyed — Again
This time, a man took a pickaxe to the marble star.
President Donald Trump's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame has been smashed to bits.
It all started when a man carrying a guitar case stopped on Hollywood Boulevard, pulled out a pickaxe and bashed the marble marker into dust and chips, Los Angeles police said.
The attack occurred at about 3 a.m. Wednesday. The man was "going to town" on the star, "like it was his business to be tearing up the ground," witness Patricia Cox told KCBS.
Austin Clay, 24, later turned himself in, according to authorities. He faces a felony vandalism charge and is being held in lieu of $20,000 police said.
"When people are unhappy with one of our honorees, we would hope that they would project their anger in more positive ways than to vandalize a California State landmark," said Leron Gubler, president and CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. "Our democracy is based on respect for the law. People can make a difference by voting and not destroying public property," he said in a statement.
This is not the first time Trump's star, awarded to the former reality television star in 2007, has been vandalized.
Comedian George Lopez pretended to urinate on the sidewalk star earlier his month, using a bottle of water. In 2016, the marker was spray-painted with a mute icon and a swastika. During the Republican National Convention in July 2016, a street artist built a tiny wall around the star, mocking the Republican candidate's promise to build a "big wall" on the Mexican border.
Before Trump won the November presidential election, a man wielding a sledgehammer busted up the marker. James Otis pleaded no contest to a count of felony vandalism and was later fined and sentenced to probation.
