Bonnie Franklin has lost her battle with pancreatic cancer. The beloved One Day at a Time star died at her home in Los Angeles Friday at age 69.
The classic sitcom ran for nine years from 1975 until 1984. Franklin played a divorced mother of two teenage girls. The show made a star out of Valerie Bertinelli and Mackenzie Phillips.
Developed by the legendary producer Norman Lear, One Day at a Time was a sitcom that broke new ground by dealing with the harsh realities of being a single mom.
Franklin was a staple on 70's talk shows. She even did a workout routine on The Mike Douglas Show. She was also an accomplished singer.
More recently, Franklin reunited with Bertinelli on the sitcom Hot in Cleveland.
And just last year, the One Day at a Time cast got a standing ovation when they reunited at the TV Land awards.
Franklin's family announced last September that she was battling pancreatic cancer. Since the news broke, like the famous theme song suggested, Franklin had been taking life one day at a time.
Her family paid tribute to her in a statement, calling her "a devoted mother and grandmother."
She leaves behind cherished TV moments that will live forever.
