Tom Hanks shed tears at the curtain call of his Broadway debut, overcome with emotion after starring in a play written by his good friend, the late Nora Ephron. INSIDE EDITION has the details.
There were tears of joy and sorrow from Tom Hanks last night, moments after the curtain came down on his Broadway debut.
Hanks knocked 'em dead in the play Lucky Guy. "Hanks For The Memories" says today's New York Post in a three-and-a-half star review.
So, why the tears from Hanks? Because the playwright, Nora Ephron, and the man Tom Hanks portrays, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Mike McAlary, aren't here to see the play.
Hank's good friend Nora Ephron, who wrote and directed Sleepless in Seattle, died last June after a long battle with leukemia.
Hanks' co-star from Sleepless in Seattle, Meg Ryan, was in the audience cheering him on.
Barbara Walters also attended and recalled her good friend Nora Ephron.
"Her death was a terrible shock to us, so tonight is bittersweet," said Walters.
The man Tom Hanks portrays in the play, Mike McAlary, was a newspaper columnist and reporter for INSIDE EDITION in the early 1990s. He was just 41 when he died of colon cancer in 1998.
Hanks brought down the house. A fitting tribute for his pal Nora in his Broadway debut. No wonder he was in tears.
