Golf Star Rory McIlroy Calls Off Wedding

Just after Rory McIlroy and fiancée Caroline Wozniacki mailed out their wedding invitations, he got cold feet and called off the wedding. INSIDE EDITION has the story.

Golf star Rory McIlroy squirmed in his seat as he made a stunning announcement. Just two days after he and tennis ace Caroline Wozniacki sent out their wedding invitations, he called the whole thing off.

He said, “It is time to move on. It was mutual and amicable. Best for both of us time to move on. I think I’ve said all I need to say.”

Together more than two years, they were considered the golden couple of sports. He is a top ranked golfer, she is a major tennis star.

They got engaged on New Years Eve in Sydney, Australia. She tweeted, “Happy New Year everyone! Rory and I started 2014 with a bang! ... I said yes!!!!”

The wedding invitations were printed and mailed last week, they were set to get married in New York, but then out the blue, he got cold feet.

He said in a statement, “The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realize that I wasn't ready for all that marriage entails. I wish Caroline all the happiness she deserves and thank her for the great times we've had."

The relationship had some rough patches. Last year, McIroy reportedly broke up with her after she tweeted an unflattering picture of him sleeping.

She is known on the tennis circuit as a mischief maker. She caused a stir with an impression of curvy Serena Williams.

Just last week she tweeted: "Happy birthday to my amazing husband to be @mcilroyrory! Time flies when you are having fun."

But on Wednesday, she is silent as she comes to terms with his sudden change of heart.
