Error! Man Trying to Catch Home Run at World Series Misses, Ball Hits Wife
The man even had a glove, but it did little to help him.
An eager baseball fan tried to catch a home run with his glove during Game 6 of the World Series Tuesday night, but the ball wound up socking his wife in the stomach.
L.A. Dodgers center fielder Joc Pederson hit the deep fly ball in the seventh-inning that sailed into the crowd.
Waiting under it was Dodgers fan Stephen Wiard, who extended his glove but missed. Instead, the ball hit his wife, Megan.
The ball left a big bruise but she says she’s feeling fine.
“I'm fine," she said in a video posted to Instagram. "I survived, but it was a great hit."
Wiard said jitters about catching the hard-hit ball may have gotten to him.
“I just missed it,” he told USA Today. “I got flustered. I just lost it... I choked. I just choked.”
And despite his fly ball blunder, his wife is sticking by him.
“He was trying to protect me,” she said. “I appreciate it.”
The Dodgers won the game 3-1 against the Houston Astros, forcing a Game 7 that will take place Wednesday night.
