A Maryland grandmother won over $10,000 when she played a lottery game for the first time.

For years, the 77-year-old woman only bought scratch-off tickets but recently the Racetrax horse-racing game caught her eye.

"I usually only play scratch-offs once or twice a week but my friends are all fans of the horses so I decided to give it a try," the woman, who chose to remain anonymous, told state lottery officials.

Turns out, beginner's luck was on her side: She won $10,410.

"I was just shocked, I couldn't believe it," she said.

She said she plans to use the money to buy holiday gifts.
