It was the first time the comic appeared without a bandage since he severely injured himself over the summer.

He told Norville: “I took the bandage off today because I figured ‘why not? Maybe I have had it on too long?’ It is getting better. I am in physical therapy right now. It is all about getting better now.”

When Fallon returned to The Tonight Show after the injury, he explained the gruesome details of what happened.

"So, basically what happened is I tripped and fell in my kitchen on a braided rug that my wife loves and I can't wait to burn it down. And I tripped and fell and I caught my fall and I’m getting up and my finger is sideways. My ring got caught on the counter as I fell and the ring stayed there and pulled my finger off,” he said.

He underwent a six hour micro surgery procedure and is lucky to have his finger and was in the ICU for 10 days.

"Apparently the odds aren't great with these things. This happens a lot and usually they just cut your finger off,” he said.
