The headless body of a missing 50-year-old New Jersey woman was found a block away from her home.
The body of Pamela Davis was found by Newark police late Monday after they responded to a report of a foul odor coming from a garage, the Essex County Prosecutor's office said.
Her head had been removed from her body, which was bound and wrapped in a blanket in the garage of a South 11th Street home, CBS New York reported.
Officials declined to confirm if Davis was decapitated, but have said her death is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office's Major Crimes Task force.
Davis was last seen by family on October 30, 10 days before her body was found. It was not immediately clear how long her body had been in the garage.
The medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of Davis's death.
A man who rented the home on the property where Davis' body was found was being questioned as a person of interest, Eyewitness News wrote.
Officials would not comment if there are any persons of interest or if anyone has been taken in for questioning, but said no one has been formally charged.
