Jim Schlegel was just back from World War II the last time the Cubs made it to the series.
A Chicago Cubs fan has waited 71 years to return to Wrigley Field to watch his beloved team.

Jim Schlegel, 97, was at the last World Series appearance of the Cubs in 1945 when they lost to the Detroit Tigers.
Schlegel had just gotten back from serving his country in World War II. He's a Pearl Harbor survivor and still has the ticket stubs from their last World Series bid.
"I've been waiting 70 years," he told Inside Edition as he returned to the famous ballpark.
Schlegel and his son, Bill, sat in the front row in Game 5. They also witnessed Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder's rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the seventh-inning stretch.
His Cubs were down for most of game 5 but turned it around for a monstrous win. Schelgel was thrilled to be a part of it and watch it with his son.
“It’s the best adventure I’ve had since the Army,” he told Inside Edition.
