INSIDE EDITION talks to the 11-year-old boy who saved the day when his mom had a seizure while driving down a highway and he took control of the speeding car.
911 Operator: "911. What are you reporting?"
Caller: "My mom's dying! My mom is dying!"
An eleven-year-old boy was zooming down the freeway at 60 miles an hour while his mom was passed out at the wheel.
911 Operator: "Ok. Where are you?"
Caller: "I'm on the freeway."
911 Operator: "What freeway are you on?"
Caller: "I don't know. Please help me!"
They showed INSIDE EDITION what happened. The frightened boy tried to comfort his mother and steer the car at the same time, and he called 911. You can hear his mom moaning when the boy says to her, "I called the cops. Don't worry!"
Horrified motorists also call 911.
Caller 2: "I saw a black car. It looked like somebody was passed out, and a kid trying to steer the car off to the side of the road."
Caller 3: "I'm reporting a car on northbound 405. It looked like the lady was having a seizure, or something."
31-year-old Kellie Klennert was driving with her son Daylon down a freeway near her home just north of Bellvue, Washington, when she suffered a seizure and passed out.
"I look at my mom, my mom is shaking," Daylon said imitating the frightening condition of his mother.
His mom recalled, "Everything went absolutely black."
Incredibly, Daylon, a fifth-grader, had the presence of mind to grab the wheel, pull the keys out of the ignition, and maneuver their car through busy lunchtime traffic to the side of the road.
Kellie told INSIDE EDITION, "He is definitely my little hero."
Cops say Daylon's quick-thinking probably saved many lives, and today he's getting a medal for his heroism.
"You saved not only your mom's life but your life and possibly several others," a local police officer said.
So what's Daylon going to do with that medal?
"I'm going to show a girl that I really, really like," the little boy said.
And what girl wouldn't be impressed by this little hero!
Doctors still aren't sure what caused Kellie's seizure, and she is not allowed to drive again until the cause is determined.
