Chaos after the NBA championship turned the streets of Los Angeles into a danger zone.
Some fans celebrating the Los Angeles Lakers victory over the Boston Celtics turned into an unruly mob, smashing windows, lighting fires and putting the city on high alert. Cops were forced to use tear gas to control the crowds.
INSIDE EDITION producer Esmeralda Servin was in the thick of the action.
The final game of the season drew big stars like Dustin Hoffman, Hilary Swank, Jeremy Piven and Josh Duhamel and Fergie, who all walked the red carpet outside the Staples Center in Los Angeles before the game.
Inside they were joined by Leonardo DiCaprio and his girlfriend, model Bar Rafaeli, Courteney Cox and Laura Dern and of course, Jack Nicholson, who was about to find out how rough basketball can sometimes get, even for a fan.
Celtics forward Kevin Garnett collided with Nicholson's son Raymond. They laughed it off and then the Lakers got him another chair to sit in.
When the game ended, the celebrities had to be escorted through the crowd. Things got a bit intense, and security guards pushed fans back to make way for actor Jake Gyllenhaal.
The L.A.P.D. didn't want a repeat of last year's violence. They were in full riot gear wearing masks and
helmets. One cop with a rifle meant business.
But most of the fans simply screamed their lungs out celebrating. They were on their best behavior, not letting a few troublemakers spoil sweet victory.
