John Schneider Searched 'Dancing With the Stars' Crowd Every Night for Estranged Children

John Schneider said his relationship with his children has suffered amid his nasty divorce from his wife, Elly.
It was an emotional night for John Schneider on “Dancing With the Stars” as he opened up about missing his three children.
The former “Dukes of Hazzard” star broke down while speaking about his struggles amid a nasty divorce with his wife, Elly, whom he married in 1993.
“I’ve been going through a divorce now for four years and it’s awful," he said on the show Monday. "The worst part about it is that it’s wedged itself in between my three adult children and myself.
"Nothing I can do except hope one day one of my kids will call me up or show up," he continued. "I look in the crowd every Monday thinking, 'Maybe tonight, maybe tonight.'"
The 58-year-old was sentenced to jail for three days in June for failure to pay spousal support. He was also released the same day as his initial booking due to overcrowding at the jail.
Schneider, who was eliminated from the show Monday night, credits the cast with helping get him through these rough times.
“If it weren’t for [country] music and now 'Dancing With the Stars,' I don’t think I can survive it,” he said. “It gives me great joy at a time where I desperately needed it.”
