Elephant Gives Birth to Calf 3 Months After Due Date

A baby elephant at the Chester Zoo may be considered a "late bloomer" after he was born a whopping three months after his due date! Zookeepers originally thought the mom's pregnancy failed because she missed her expected due date and returned to her normal weight. Also, her hormones and behavior indicated she may have been resorbing the calf, something the zoo says is a natural process some elephants experience.
