Are cows and their waste getting a bad rap? Mark Howell told CBS News that cow excrement, and the methane gas it produces, have been misused. When the gas is captured and treated, it can be used as fuel. In fact, he’s using it to power his farm’s tractor. A company called Bennamenn has created a system to capture and process the gas, turning the cow patties into fuel. The cleaned methane gas produces about a half ton of usable fuel per day.
