Moments of Silence Mark Key Events on Anniversary of Sept. 11 Attacks

In New York, a moment of silence was observed at 8:46 a.m., the time the first plane struck the World Trade Center's North Tower on Sept. 11, 2001. A second moment of silence followed at 9:03 a.m. to mark when the South Tower was hit. At 9:37, there was silence for the moment a plane struck the Pentagon on 9/11. And at 10:03 a.m., a moment of silence was held for the plane that crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
