A petition called "Remake Game of Thrones Season 8 with competent writers" began circulating online — and it snagged more than 1 million signatures by Sunday morning.

"David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on," the organizer wrote on Change.org.

"This series deserves a final season that makes sense. Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!"

The HBO series surpassed George R. R. Martin's novels by season six. The show was on hiatus for 2018, and the season eight premier on April 12 was a highly anticipated return. More than 17 million people tuned in, Variety reported.

Fans have been finding problems with season eight, however. Many complained on social media that the long-expected Battle of Winterfell was lit too dark to be able to understand what was happening. And viewers groaned when a coffee cup was left in front of the camera in the May 5 episode.
