Jose Nunez, 47, took advantage of the mother's fear of deportation.

A Texas deputy has been arrested after allegedly molesting a 4-year-old relative whose undocumented mother he's accused of threatening with deportation.

Authorities allege 47-year-old Jose Nunez, at 10-year veteran of the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, sexually assaulted the girl before exploiting her mother's fear of being tossed out of the country in a bid to keep her quiet when she found out, according to KENS.

In spite of her fears, the mother reportedly reported Nunez at a fire station after her little girl complained of pain Saturday night.

Investigators stepped in, and Nunez was arrested and charged with super aggravated sexual assault on Sunday night.

At a press briefing, Sheriff Javier Salazar called the allegations “quite frankly, heartbreaking, disturbing, disgusting, infuriating — all at the same time."

Salazar added: "When one person or persons individually demonstrate like they did in this case that they're not worthy to be part of this agency, then we're going to, quite frankly, get them out of here. Cut them out like cancer. And that's what's going to happen in this case."

Nunez is on administrative leave pending the completion of an investigation.

Salazar said authorities have reason to believe the abuse had been going on for months, or even years.

The sheriff also said there could be other victims and urged them, or possible witnesses, to come forward.
