Long-lost lovers had the chance to reunite after 75 years.

In 1944, Kara Troy Robbins was based with the U.S. Army in France when he met and fell in love with 18-year-old Jeannine Pierson. But he eventually had to move back to the U.S., and the two lost contact.

"When he left in the truck, I cried, of course, I was very sad," Pierson told Eurovision. "I wish after the war he hadn't returned to America."

Robbins married someone else, but he never forgot Pierson. He kept a picture of her throughout the years.

This month, Robbins returned to France for a D-Day celebration, wondering if he’d have the chance to see her again.

He enlisted the help of French journalists, who were able to help track down Pierson, the paper reported.

They organized a meeting between the two. It was emotional as they showered each other with kisses upon their first meeting in decades. The pair, who are now both widowed, spent hours together before Robbins had to leave Normandy.

They both cried as they parted.
