Stuntman Who Acted As Bear in 'The Revenant': I Thought I Was Hurting Leonardo DiCaprio
Leonardo DiCaprio getting mauled by a wild bear is the most talked about scene in the Oscar nominated film The Revenant.
However, thanks to movie magic, DiCaprio wasn't being attacked by a real bear.
Stuntman Glenn Ennis was transformed with the help of a blue suit and computer generated effects, creating a terrifying animal that truly faced off against the Oscar hopeful.
“There's the part where I step on his head, he actually asked for that,” Ennis told INSIDE EDITION. “My positioning was very authentic; moving like a bear, acting like a bear.”
Ennis said that the job was “incredibly physically demanding. It was hard on the body."
The 6-foot-4, 200-pound stuntman was constantly on his hands and knees, while also having to pick up DiCaprio and throw him to the ground multiple times.
“I thought I was hurting him and everybody around thought I was hurting him as well,” he said. “He was so powerful as an actor.”
But Ennis ended up hurting himself and not DiCaprio, dislocating his finger during the intense shoot.
All of the hard work has paid off. The film's nominated for 12 Oscars including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor.
