Amy Schumer Calls For Gun Control After 'Trainwreck' Shooting: We Can Stop 'Crazy People from Doing Crazy Thin

An emotional Amy Schumer has called for gun control in light of a deadly shooting during a showing of her new movie, Trainwreck.

A gunman opened fire as the movie played in a movie theater in Lafayette, Louisiana, killing two young women before taking his own life on July 23.

"I don't know why he chose my movie but it's very personal to me," Schumer said at a press conference in New York on Monday. "I've thought about these victims each day since the tragedy.”

She joined New York Senator Chuck Schumer - her second cousin once removed - to call for gun control at the press conference.

"We're here to say enough is enough," he said. "We can't just sit back and allow mass shootings to become commonplace... How many breaking news flashes will it take for Congress to act?"

Amy Schumer added that the gunman, who had a history of mental illness, "shouldn't have been able to put his hand on a gun in the first place."

"The critics scoff and say, 'Well, there's no way to stop crazy people from doing crazy things,' but they're wrong," she said. "There is a way to stop them. Preventing danergous people from getting guns is very possible."

The pair announced a new public iniative to tackle gun violence.

The plan focuses on background checks and mental health funding. They will also plan to take their fight to Congress, where they will push for mental health and substance-abuse program funding.

During the press conference, Amy Schumer refused to utter the name of the Alabama drifter who pulled the trigger, killing Mayci Breaux and Jillian Johnson.
