50 Cent Spends $108,000 a Month on Expenses, Bankruptcy Filing Reveals
50 Cent told a bankruptcy court that he spends over $100K on expenses each month.
In 2003, 50 Cent released his most famous album, Get Rich or Die Tryin’. It seems the rapper got rich alright - but last month filed for bankruptcy.
Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson says in a Connecticut bankruptcy court filing that he spends $108,000 a month on expenses, including $5,000 just for gardening, according to Billboard.
The rapper, actor, and business mogul says he has a monthly income of $185,000 mainly from royalties and interest on investments.
His Connecticut mansion - the former home of Mike Tyson - costs him about $72,000 to maintain.
He has posted photos of his homes and lavish lifestyle on Instagram.
The “In Da Club” rapper filed for bankruptcy in July after a New York City jury ordered him to pay $7 million to a woman, Lastonia Leviston, who he said posted online a sex tape she made with her boyfriend.
When he was promoting his new movie, Southpaw, on Conan he was asked about the bankruptcy.
“Yeah, I need protection," 50 Cent told Conan. "You get a bullseye painted on your back when you're successful, and it's public, you become the ideal person for lawsuits."
The video clip from July 15 was later pulled from Conan’s website, TeamCoco.com.
Business Insider obtained the court transcript of the proceedings following the Conan comments. In the transcript, a lawyer asked him if he made a joke about needing protection regarding bankruptcy.
"Yeah," he responded. "You got to smile when you are in public situations. If you're crying, they will just have more fun with you."
He added that he stood by comments that he considered himself a target for lawsuits.
Business Insider reached out to Conan for comment on the matter and spokesperson said they have no comment on the situation.
