Before the beloved comedian died in 1997, “he did 99 percent of the film and passed away,” Farley's brother, Kevin told Yahoo! in a recent interview.

Now a story reel featuring Farley's voice as Shrek gives insight into what the beloved animated character would have sounded like.
After Chris’ passing, his former Saturday Night Live cast mate Mike Meyers was brought in to bring the character to life again – but with a different twist. The Austin Powers actor gave the giant green ogre a Scottish accent.
The life of Chris Farley has just been brought to the big screen in the new documentary, I Am Chris Farley. It traces his rise from the stage to film and includes hilarious moments from his legendary performances on Saturday Night Live.
His brother Kevin, is the documentary's executive producer.

"I just want to tell the world who he really was," he told INSIDE EDITION. "His persona was a wild, crazy guy. He was actually a shy, sensitive guy, that's something people don't know."
Kevin told Yahoo! that the original Shrek character was more like his brother, “a humble, bumbling innocent guy.”
The footage of Chris voicing Shrek was posted online in 2013 by the film’s producer John Garbett, but has regained attention after a Reddit user pointed it out this week.
Chris checked into rehab 17 times before his death at the age of 33.
