Man Allegedly Shot Trooper in the Head and Told Him: 'You're Going to Die'
Senior Trooper Steven Vincent, a 43-year-old married father, was shot on Sunday afternoon and passed away on Monday.
A man allegedly shot a Louisiana trooper in the head after telling him: "You're going to die."
Senior Trooper Steven Vincent, a 43-year-old married father, suffered "severe neurological damage" from the attack on Sunday and passed away on Monday, authorities said.
He had responded to reports of a man driving his pickup truck erratically. The motorist, 54-year-old Kevin Daigle, eventually ran the truck into a ditch, Louisiana State Police said.
The trooper, a 13-year state police veteran, reached the truck at 2:43 p.m. Daigle allegedly approached him with a sawed-off shotgun.

"Sometime after that, he encountered the driver and a struggle ensued," said Sergeant James Anderson, a state police spokesperson. "Our trooper was shot in the head."
Before pulling the trigger, Daigle told Vincent, "You're lucky, you're going to die," police said.
Col. Michael Edmonson, head of state police, said passersby jumped into action.
"Thank God for several civilians who pulled over," he said. "They jumped out, they subdued him, grabbed the trooper's handcuffs and put them on the suspect."
They gave first aid until emergency services arrived.
Edmonson said on Sunday night that Vincent had suffered severe neurological damage but on Monday, he announced that the trooper had passed away.

Vincent leaves behind a wife, Katherine, and a nine-year-old son, Ethan. One of his brothers is also a state trooper and another is a local police chief, Edmonson said.
Daigle also went to hospital after suffering scrapes while struggling with the heroic passersby.
Charges against him will include first-degree murder, police said.
