26-Year-Old Groom Passes Away From Cancer Just 4 Months After Fairy Tale Wedding
Solomon Chau and Jennifer Carter brought their wedding forward by four months after learning earlier this year that he had terminal liver cancer.
A funeral was held for a groom on what was originally supposed to be his wedding day.
After learning in March that he had terminal cancer, Solomon Chau, 26, and his fiancée, Jennifer Carter, brought their wedding forward by four months. They wed in an incredible, fairy-tale wedding in Toronto, Canada on April 11.
The couple had just 128 more days together before he passed away on August 17. A funeral was held for him on August 21 - the day they had initially intended to be married.
"He fought until his very last breath, and had all of his doctors shaking their heads in disbelief at just how much he could handle," his wife wrote on her Facebook page on August 17.
The couple, who were together for eight years, became engaged in 2014 and planned to marry this August.
In December 2014, he was diagnosed with liver cancer and underwent surgery to remove a tumor. But in March this year, Chau was rushed to hospital with severe stomach pains and doctors found that his cancer was terminal.
A GoFundMe page was launched so that the couple could get married sooner. More than 600 people raised $52,431 to pay for the wedding and Chau's dying wish to have one final trip with his fiancée.
A beautiful video by Jason Wilton of Boundless Weddings shows their magical wedding day. The couple is seen smiling for images taken by Red Earth Photography and Laurel Leaf Photography while surrounded by their loved ones.
Despite doctors telling them he didn't have much time left, the couple enjoyed four more months together before Chau passed away in his sleep.
His wife shared the heartbreaking news to Facebook.
"I'm forever in your debt for showing me what love really is all about, and we learned more about it at 26 than some will learn in a lifetime," she wrote.
"You and I should have been able to live the next 60 years of our lives together, but I'm still forever thankful that God gave us 8 incredible years."
