Watch This Single-Engine Airplane Make an Unexpected Landing on a California Street

A motorist with a dashboard camera captured a strange sight: a single-engine aircraft speeding down a California road.

Drivers battling ever-notorious California traffic had an unexpected partner in the gridlock when a single-engine plane made an emergency landing and sped through an intersection, video shows.

A motorist driving down McGaw Avenue in Irvine with a dashboard camera captured the strange sight as he approached Red Hill Avenue, where the footage shows the Pipe Cherokee plane cruising down the road.

"Are you kidding me?" a person in the vehicle says as the plane passes.

In the video uploaded by YouTube user CalicoStrikethe sound of tires screeching to a halt on the road can be heard.

An Orange Coast College student enrolled in the OCC Aviation Pilot Training program and a flight instructor were behind the plane's controls, the college's student newspaper the Coast Report Online reported

They were reportedly in the middle the student's first lesson when the plane needed to make an emergency landing.

The pair had taken off from Santa Ana's John Wayne airport and were working on touch-and-go exercises when the plane's engine shut off, the Coast Report Online wrote.

The incident was being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration, a spokesman Federal Aviation Administration confirmed to INSIDE EDITION. He declined to further discuss the details, noting the FAA does not comment on pending investigations.
