Artist Transforms Pumpkins Into Incredible Jack-O-Lanterns In Hours-Long Carving Sessions

An Illinois man has taken what many would consider an autumnal pastime to the next level, transforming pumpkins into masterpieces for the Halloween season.

Chicago-based artist Edward Cabral spends anywhere from six to 12 hours drawing and carving gourds to create intricate scenes, including the Headless Horseman readying to throw his pumpkin, the Beatles, a tiger and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivering a speech.
“My work centers around the ephemeral and ornamental. I'm interested in making work that must be destroyed to be completed and many of the I choose media cannot be archived,” Cabral wrote on his website.
Cabral graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago in 2011. He paints, sculpts and decorates cakes, according to his Instagram account, which features photos of the masterful jack-o-lanterns.

“Look how awesome!” a commenter wrote.
