Controversy as Caitlyn Jenner Could Win Glamour's 'Woman of the Year' Award
Some are expressing outrage that Jenner could win the award, while others are coming to her defense.
Does Caitlyn Jenner deserve to be “Woman of the Year”?
Glamour magazine reportedly will bestow that honor to the transgender woman. Actress Reese Witherspoon is said to be a co-recipient.
There is no official word from Glamour magazine but Jenner reportedly took part in a top secret photo shoot for the “Woman of the Year” cover.
But Jenner’s selection has set off a firestorm of criticism, with some women and men posting acerbic comments on the Internet.
On the Federalist blog site, writer Nicole Russell said “by choosing Jenner as woman of the year, Glamour endorses the idea that men are better at being women than we are.”
Another post lauded the magazine’s 2014 choice, Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyongo: “That’s a hell of a lot more inspiring that Caitlyn’s transition.”
But Jenner had some defenders, including one writer who posted “Beautiful lady!”
