Search is On for Woman Who Went Overboard During Dance Party Cruise

An unidentified woman fell by some accounts and jumped by others from the Norwegian Pearl cruise ship near Cuba on Thursday evening.

The search continued Friday for a woman who went overboard while on an electronic dance music cruise hosted by musicians including Diplo and Skrillex.

The unidentified woman went into the water around 20 miles from Cuba around 7 p.m. Thursday during the four-day floating Mad Decent festival.

A cruise company statement said the woman intentionally leaped into the Yucatan Channel.

"Someone jumped off our boat, and we're currently circling the gulf looking for her," posted Twitter user and passenger Zethus Suen before sharing a photo of lifeboats taking to the water in search of the woman.

According to NBC News, the Coast Guard deployed a cutter and C-130 rescue plane from Florida to aid in the search.

Before daybreak Friday, the Clearwater-based U.S. Coast Guard tweeted that the search was back on as sunlight returned over the Gulf.

The Coast Guard tweet included video of a plane taking of en route to the search area.

The cruise left from Miami on Nov. 11 and was set to sail to Cozumel, Mexico. 

As of Friday morning, it was unclear whether the journey would proceed as planned.
