Woman Arrested for Driving Drunk With 8-Month-Old Infant Son In Her Lap: Police
A Pennsylvania woman struck a curb while she had an infant in her lap, officials said.
A Pennsylvania woman was arrested after she allegedly drove while intoxicated with her infant son in her lap, cops said.
Police responding to a car accident said Erika Rizzon, 32, was drunk when she struck a curb at Bethany Road and East Main Street in Ephrata about 10:15 p.m. Saturday.
Witnesses told officers that at the time of the crash, Rizzon had her eight-month-old son in her lap, Ephrata Police said.
The seatbelt was strapped around both Rizzon and her baby, authorities said.
"Rizzon was slurring her speech and saying things that did not make sense. She had a strong odor of alcohol emitting from her breath and person and stated she had one drink of liquor prior to the crash," a police criminal complaint said.
The complaint said Rizzon was unable to stand or walk without losing her balance.
"On one occasion she fell to her side as she attempted to sit on the curb," the complaint said.
Rizzon was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and endangering the welfare of children, authorities said.
She was taken to a local hospital for a blood test, the results of which are currently pending, officials said.
She has no prior DUIs, according to police.
Rizzon has not yet entered a plea. She was out on $3,000 secured bail, which is posted only if an individual does not appear in court, officials said.
She is due in court for a preliminary hearing on January 21.
