Artists Rename New York Street 'David Bowery' to Honor David Bowie

A collective of street artists renamed a sign in New York City to honor David Bowie.
Just steps from the late David Bowie’s New York City home, artists came together to change one of the street signs to honor the iconic musician.

Members of The LISA Project, a collective of artists who work around Manhattan’s Lower East Side, Little Italy and Chinatown, changed The Bowery street sign to read: “David Bowery.”

Bowie, who lived on nearby Lafayette Street, passed away on January 10 after a secret 18-month battle with cancer. He was 69.

This was far from the only tribute paid to Bowie.
Members of Choir! Choir! Choir!, a Canada-based singing group, joined forces with The Art Gallery of Ontario and gathered 500 people to sing Bowie’s classic song “Space Oddity” at the Walker Court in Toronto.
Just two days before Bowie’s passing, he released his 25th album, Blackstar. After he died, it became his first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts.
