Are You Safe From Hotel Peeping Toms?
After Erin Andrews was recorded through a peephole, INSIDE EDITION puts one hotel to the test with surprising results.
Have hotel security policies changed since TV personality Erin Andrews was secretly videotaped in a Nashville Marriott?
In 2009, INSIDE EDITION checked in at the same hotel. Jim Moret asked for a room next to Lisa Guerrero. He was told she had already checked in.
And though staff told Moret there was no room available next to hers, they let him know that he would be staying in the floor above her.
Management later told us: "Since the incident in question, the Nashville Marriott at Vanderbilt has changed management. The new management company requires and enforces a strict adherence to policies regarding guest privacy, and as such, has implemented additional safety and privacy measures."
We wondered if things were different now. So we checked into the Marriott Marquis in Times Square.
We called to see if we could get a room next to IE's Ann Mercogliano.
A clerk said she would put in a request.
When we arrived to check in, we were told we had a room a few doors down from Ann, who was never told someone had asked after her.
When we approached staff for comment, we were told to turn the camera off.
"While I can’t speak to the situation at the Marriott Marquis, I can tell you that our policy is that requests for connecting or adjoining rooms must be verified by both parties before the request should be granted. We will reiterate this policy to our hotels," a company spokesman told IE in an emailed statement.
