Cops: Baby Boy Dies After Being Left Alone in RV for Seven Hours, Parents Charged With Murder

A six-month-old baby in Virginia died after being left alone inside a recreational vehicle for seven hours and his body was found wedged between a couch and the driver’s seat, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Brendon Newton had been propped up on pillows with his bottle inside the RV, where his parents lived, authorities said. Sabrina Malick, 29, was denied bail on Tuesday. She and the baby’s father, Walter Newton, 46, each face second-degree murder and felony child neglect charges.

She has pleaded not guilty. She wept in court as a judge read the charges against her, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Her attorney said she had left the baby in Newton's care. The infant died from asphyxiation.

The baby’s body was found in September, and it took six months for investigators and prosecutors to build a case. The couple was charged on Friday, WWBT-TV reported.

The woman’s brother, Galen Malick, said “We don’t really know who to believe and what to believe,” according to WTVR-TV. “I don’t think it was to be harmful or anything, I just think it was neglect, she got busy doing something else.”

It was not clear whether Newton had entered a plea.
